(Lasik, No-Touch Laser, Relex Smile, PRK) – Treatment of visual disorders such as myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia with laser technology.
Laser-Eye Surgeries
Relex Smile, Lasik(Intralase or Femto-Lasik), Lasek, No-touch Laser, PRK, Wavefront
Laser eye surgeries have been safely performed and approved by the FDA since the 1990s.
The purpose of these surgeries, which have subtypes such as Lasik, Relex Smile, Lasek, No-touch Laser and PRK, is to eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses.
We utilize femtosecond laser and excimer laser technologies in these surgeries applied to refractive errors such as myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia.
Lasek is based on the principle of removing the epithelial layer on the surface of the cornea with the help of alcohol. After the laser is applied, the epithelium spreads back to its place, unlike PRK. The healing process is completely similar to No-touch laser and PRK laser. These patients may experience burning, stinging and watering for 2-3 days. Vision becomes clear in an average of 1 week-10 days.
I-Lasik, Femto-Lasik, Wavefront Laser
With today’s technology, laser treatment of refractive errors has become quite common. One of the most common surgeries is I-Lasik (Laser Assisted insitu Keratomilluesis) surgery.
Lasik surgery can be used to treat visual defects such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism (confusion in the image). This method can also treat pre-existing aberrations, called scattering, and low image quality.
Lasik surgery is a surgical method that takes about 4-5 minutes and consists of two stages. There are complaints such as burning and stinging for 3-4 hours after the surgery. The person can easily return to daily life the next day.
Smile laser treatment is a personalized 3rd generation laser technology that we apply in myopic and astigmatic eyes. With the SMILE laser method, which is performed in a single stage, myopia up to number -10 and astigmatism up to number -5 can be treated. It is a suitable treatment method for athletes and professional groups who are at risk of being exposed to impact and pressure. The operation takes approximately 5 minutes. Complaints such as burning, stinging and watering may occur for 3-4 hours after the surgery, but the person can easily return to daily life the next day..
Transepithelial PRK method, popularly known as No-Touch Laser, is a method generally applied to patients with thin cornea. The patient does not feel any pain during this procedure which takes about 3-4 minutes under local anesthesia. In this technique, unlike Lasik surgery, a thin membrane layer is not removed from the cornea. Instead, the laser is used to shoot/ the laser shots are made on the epithelial layer on the top of the cornea and the stromal tissue underneath. As a result, the numbers are corrected. Then, the patient is discharged after wearing contact lenses. After this surgery, complaints such as burning and stinging can be seen for about 3-4 days, but these complaints are minimized with special drops prepared in our clinic. After the controls on the 1st and 3rd day of the surgery, the contact lens is removed and the patient can return to daily life. In the No-Touch Laser method, a period of about 1 week is needed for clear vision.
PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) is a treatment method applied to correct the defects in patients with refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. In this surgery, unlike No-touch laser treatment, the epithelial layer is peeled off with alcohol or manually instead of laser shots. The healing time is the same as with no touch laser. After about 2-3 days of burning, stinging and watering, the person can return to normal life. For clear vision, it will be necessary to wait for about 1 week.
There is no best method in laser surgeries, there is the most suitable method for the person’s eye. After a detailed examination, you and your doctor can decide on the most suitable method.
We can perform laser surgeries on both eyes in the same session.
It is possible to safely correct astigmatism up to number 6 in laser surgeries.
Since we place an apparatus to keep your eyelids open during the surgery, you do not have the chance to close your eyes. Also, the latest technology devices have an eye tracker system. If you move your eyes, the device does not apply the laser procedure. We continue the laser procedure after we move your eyes back to the desired position.
Laser surgeries are FDA-approved surgeries that have been safely performed since the 1990s. Doctors and their families can have this surgery safely and with peace of mind. Among ophthalmologists, we have colleagues who perform this surgery themselves.
There is no such thing that laser cannot be applied to people who wear contact lenses. However, some problems may develop on the surface of the eye due to prolonged and uncontrolled contact lens wear. This rarely causes us to change the laser method.
There is no pain during surgery in any laser procedure. However, in surface surgeries such as PRK-NoTouch-LASEK, there may be uncomfortable complaints such as burning, stinging and watering for 2-3 days after the procedure.
We apply laser treatment to the cornea layer of our eye. However, we apply cataract surgery or trifokal lens surgery to the lens behind the iris layer of our eye. Since these two tissues are independent of each other, people who have laser surgery can have cataract or trifokal lens surgery in the future.
After laser procedures, the possibility of the numbers repeating or remaining numbers is around 2-3%. If your cornea structure allows, we can perform the laser procedure again.
Depending on the technique to be performed, the person can return to normal life 1 day after Lasik, Relex Smile methods; 4 days after Prk and Notouch methods.
